Percocet dosage

Percocet is available as tablets in strengths of 2.5/325, 5/325, 7.5/325, 7.5/500, 10/325, and 10/650 mg tablets (oxycodone/acetaminophen strengths), with a total daily dose not to exceed 4 grams of acetaminophen to avoid liver damage; 60 mg total per day of oxycodone strength and above used only for opioid tolerant patients. It is important to swallow the tablets whole, as chewed or broken tablets can release too much oxycodone. Because it is quickly absorbed by the body, too high levels of oxycodone will be present. This could lead to death.

What drugs, substances, or supplements interact with Percocet

Percocet can interact with other opioid pain medication, sedatives and tranquilizers. It may also interact with sleeping pills, muscle relaxers or other medications that make you sleepy. Inform your doctor about all the medications and supplements that you take.

Percocet during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Children have not been tested for safety. Pregnant and nursing women should exercise caution, or even avoid taking the drug altogether. Infants may be born with an opioid tolerance as well as a depressed respiratory system. Percocet has also been detected in low concentrations in breast milk. The acetaminophen in this combination drug may increase the risk of liver injury for patients with liver disease or those who consume large amounts of alcohol. This opioid drug is frequently used to treat addiction and can lead to dependence. Some patients develop tolerance to the drug, and may need to gradually wean themselves off it.
